Quick facts

Takes: One EPUB 2 or EPUB 3 book, up to 200 MB, which may unpack to at most 640 MB in 10,000 files. A book locked with DRM is refused.
Gives: A PDF on A4, Letter or A5: chapters on new pages, numbered pages, the book’s own styles, fonts and pictures, and its table of contents as bookmarks. A fixed-layout book keeps each page at its own size.
Runs: On our servers: the book is unpacked in memory, never to disk, printed by a Chromium that can reach only the book’s own files, and the job is deleted as soon as the result is fetched.

Fonts: The fonts the book carries are used, including those hidden with the IDPF or Adobe font obfuscation; text they do not cover falls back to the Noto fonts, which cover Indian scripts.

Typeset from the book’s own parts

The chapters are read in the order the book gives, the ones it marks as extra (notes, answers) at the end, and put together into one document, so pages are numbered through and a link from one chapter to another leads there inside the PDF. Each chapter starts on a new page with the book’s own styles; a cover the chapters do not already show is put first, on a page of its own.

The table of contents becomes the bookmarks, each opening where its entry points rather than at the top of a chapter. A book written right to left opens right to left. Picture books and comics made with a fixed layout are printed page by page at the size each page was drawn for. To make the PDF smaller afterwards, use Compress PDF.

The service as it runs on uvpdftool.com, on 2026-10-26: the sample care guide, an EPUB with pictures, printed on A5 through the same job flow the tool uses.

The PDF is bigger than the book because each picture is embedded as it is and the text is set in fonts the PDF carries. Read the time per page: about a second and a half here, most of it the browser laying the chapters out.

What it cannot do

Remove DRM. Books locked with copy protection are refused.
Play audio or video, or run the book's scripts. What the pages show is printed.
Keep a reading app's own settings, such as the font size you chose there. The book's own styles are used, on the paper you choose.
