What these terms cover
These terms apply to the website pdfTool, operated by UV ResearchLabs (“we”), and to every tool on it. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
The service
The site offers tools that work on PDF files, pictures and documents. Most run inside your web browser; those marked “Runs on our servers” run on servers we operate, as the privacy policy describes. The tools are provided free of charge and may be changed, added to or withdrawn at any time. We aim to keep the site available but do not promise that it will be available at every moment or free of errors.
Accounts, free use and credits
- Accounts are optional and free. An account is tied to an email address you control; keep the sign-in links we send you to yourself.
- The server tools may be used a limited number of times a day without charge, per browser or per account. Beyond that, an account spends credits. New accounts receive a number of credits as a welcome; credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred and are not refunded except when a job fails, in which case they are returned.
- We may limit, suspend or close accounts and browsers that abuse the service, and adjust the free limits and credit costs as the service develops.
Your files and your responsibility
- Your files remain yours. Files used with the browser tools never leave your device; files given to the server tools are processed automatically and deleted as the privacy policy describes. We claim no rights in them and use them for nothing but your request.
- You are responsible for the files you process and for having the right to process them, and, for the web page tool, for being allowed to fetch the page you name. Do not use the site to infringe anyone’s rights or to break any law.
- Always keep your original file. The tools produce a new file and leave the original untouched, but a result may not be what you expected, and it is for you to check it before relying on it.
- Redaction removes what lies under the boxes you draw or the matches you accept. It is your responsibility to check that everything you meant to remove is gone before you share a redacted file.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- interfere with the site, its security or its availability, or probe it for weaknesses without our written permission;
- upload files that contain malicious code, or use the server tools to reach, load or attack other people’s systems;
- use automated means to load the site or its data beyond what a person browsing it would;
- copy, resell or offer the site’s code or its bundled fonts and language data as a service of your own without permission, except as their open-source licenses allow.
No warranty
The site and its tools are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Results depend on the files you give the tools, which vary greatly; a tool may fail on a file or produce an imperfect result.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profit or business, arising from the use of or inability to use the site, even if we were told such loss was possible. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, which for free use is nothing.
Open-source software
The site is built with open-source software, fonts and language data, each used under its own license. Those licenses are unaffected by these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms when the site changes. The date at the top shows the current version; continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and any dispute is subject to the courts there, without prejudice to any rights you have as a consumer under the laws of the country where you live.
