Quick facts

Takes
One PDF, up to 500 of its pages at a time. Pages without text, such as scans, are read with OCR in your browser first.
Gives
The summary on the page and as a text file: a paragraph, or a paragraph and up to twelve key points, each with the page it comes from. Or study aids: flashcards, a quiz and the key terms, on the page, as a text file and as a file Anki imports.
Runs
The text is read in your browser and summarized by Claude Haiku 5.5, Anthropic’s model, through our server.
Costs
1 credit for every two pages of text; a page of dense text counts as more, and a page without text as nothing. Study aids cost 6 credits more, for their longer answer.
Plan
Pro, with 1,000 AI credits a month; an AI pack adds 2,000 more. The cost shows before anything is sent, and a request that fails gives its credits back.
Languages
The summary is written in any of 17: English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, French, German, Italian, Dutch.
Privacy
The file stays on your device; only its text goes to our server and on to Anthropic, which does not train on it and deletes it within 30 days. Before it goes, email addresses, phone, card, Aadhaar, PAN, IBAN, Social Security and PPS numbers, and any names you add, are replaced on your device by markers such as ⟦PHONE 1⟧, and the answer gets them back on your device; this is on unless you turn it off. We keep how much was used and what it cost, never the text, the questions or the answers.

A summary that says where it comes from

The text is taken from the pages in reading order, columns one after the other, with running headers, footers and page numbers left out, the way PDF to Text reads it. A document of up to about 40 pages of ordinary text is summarized in one request; a longer one is read in parts of at most 80,000 tokens, each part’s notes keeping the pages they come from, and the summary is written from the notes.

The model is told to add nothing the document does not say and to keep names, numbers, dates and amounts exactly as written. A summary still leaves things out by design: read the pages it points to before you act on a date, an amount or a condition. A PDF can carry text written to steer an AI. The document goes to the model as data inside marked boundaries, after instructions that say to treat it as data; the model has no tools, no web access and nothing to run, and its answer is shown as plain text, never as a page or a link of its own making. The worst such text can do is change an answer you read.

Study aids are made the same way, from the pages or from the notes on a long document’s parts: up to 15 flashcards, a quiz of up to 8 questions with four choices each, and up to 15 key terms, fewer for a short document, each with the page it comes from. The quiz is checked on the page, which says why each answer is right; the cards turn over one at a time. The answer comes back in a fixed shape that is checked before it is shown, so a question without exactly one right choice among its own is left out rather than shown wrong.

For questions about a particular point, use Chat with PDF; for the whole text, use PDF to Text, which is free and never leaves your device.

Read it as what a short report costs: a few credits and a few seconds, and a summary in which every point names its page. The credits are counted from the text sent, so a page of dense print costs more than a page of headings.

What it cannot do

  • Read text that is part of a picture or a chart. Only the text of the pages is summarized.
  • Summarize more than 500 pages at once. Summarize a longer document in parts.
  • Stand behind every point. Check the page a point names before you act on it.

Frequently asked questions

How long a PDF can it summarize?
Up to 500 pages at a time. A long document is read in parts and summarized from notes on each part, so nothing is cut off.
How much does a summary cost?
One AI credit for every two pages of text; a page of dense text counts as more, and a page without text as nothing. The cost shows before anything is sent, and Pro comes with 1,000 credits a month.
Can it summarize a scan?
Yes. Pages without text are read with OCR in your browser before anything is sent.
Is my document kept or used for training?
No. Only the text is sent, through our server to Anthropic, which does not train on it and deletes it within 30 days unless its safety systems flag a request. We keep the number of credits used, never the text or the summary.
Can I trust the summary?
It keeps names, numbers and dates as written and says which page each point comes from, but a summary leaves things out: check those pages before you act on a point.
Can it make flashcards or a quiz to study from?
Yes: choose Study aids. You get up to 15 flashcards, a quiz of up to 8 questions with four choices each and the answers explained, and up to 15 key terms, each with its page. The quiz is checked on the page, and the cards download as a file Anki imports. They cost six credits more than a summary of the same pages.
