Frequently asked questions
- Why did IRS Document Upload Tool reject my photo?
- Almost always the file: a format other than JPG, a size outside the window, or the wrong pixel dimensions. The table above lists what Internal Revenue Service states; the tool makes your file meet every line it can check and tells you which it cannot.
- Does my file leave my phone?
- No. The rules come with the page, and the cropping, resizing, compressing and checking run in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to us.
- The portal asks for a minimum size and my file is smaller. What happens?
- The picture is encoded sharper first. If it is still under the minimum, a comment that every reader skips is added inside the file so that it reaches the minimum; the picture itself does not change.
- Can you fix a blurred photo or a dark background?
- No. Software can crop, resize and compress; what the picture shows is for the camera. The card under each file names what IRS Document Upload Tool asks of the picture itself.
